Mobility Pavilion
The idea is based on some of the principles and theories by Mies Van der Rohe established in his Barcelona Pavilion. The pavilion stands for spatial openness achieved by dismantling the boundary into pieces distributed across a ground plane which is a quality that we translated into our Mobility Pavilion. The claim of Mies for universality and temporariness on one hand and the unique design with sophisticated and extravagant materiality on the other is a paradox that is embodied in the pavilion. In our design we introduce a paradox of our own inspired by Mies`s. Using a universal and ubiquitous design element such as the container, we are proposing a spatial sequence and a quest for opening and dismantling. In other words the question we asked was how to create an open spatial configuration that would exhibit high sophistication in design, using a closed system such as the container unit? We were searching for a solution that is transparent, permeable and would avoid the typical operation of staking the containers together.
